The place

Essaouira, and nowhere else.

A walled town on the Atlantic with wind almost every afternoon, a working fishing port, and a medina you can cross on foot in fifteen minutes. It is not a resort strip. That’s the point.

Inside the ramparts

Fifteen minutes on foot from one gate to the other, and your bed is somewhere in the middle of it.

Blue fishing boats and nets in the port at Essaouira

The port

Blue boats, nets being mended, gulls. They go out and come back while you're in the water.

The medina

Blue-and-white walls, cats on the steps, bread ovens and workshops. The town is where you spend your evenings.

The wind

It arrives most afternoons. Surf in the morning, watch the bay fill with kites after lunch, or get on one with Abdo or Zack.
